Growing Forest Seedlings for Restoration & Conservation

Micronurseries

The Micronurseries (Tapak Semaian Mikro or TSM)is a network of community-led nurseries dedicated to growing native forest seedlings for restoration, conservation, and sustainable planting initiatives. Managed by Orang Asli women and the local community, these nurseries cultivate a variety of forest species that contribute to ecosystem restoration while supporting local livelihoods.

By purchasing our saplings, you are directly supporting community-based conservation and helping restore Malaysia’s native forest ecosystems. Our nurseries collectively maintain a revolving stock of 1,000–2,000 saplings at any given time.

Project Background & Partnerships

The TSM Project is a community-led initiative designed to empower Orang Asli families by integrating environmental stewardship with sustainable micro-economies. By transforming traditional ecological knowledge into professional nursery management, the project creates direct livelihood opportunities while contributing to long-term forest restoration.

Our Partners

  • Initiated by Free Tree Society: An organisation dedicated to urban regreening and environmental education. They provided the technical training, capacity building, and structural framework to scale these nurseries into conservation hubs.

Supported by Yayasan Hasanah: As the impact-based foundation of Khazanah Nasional Berhad, their support focuses on socio-economic empowerment for indigenous communities and safeguarding Malaysia’s natural heritage.
